Criminology
Level 3 Criminology (WJEC) is a qualification that combines elements of law, psychology and sociology to help you understand crime and the criminal justice system.
It is equivalent to one A-Level and is assessed through a mixture of exams and controlled assessment.
You will study four units. In Changing Awareness of Crime, you explore different types of crime, media reporting and how campaigns influence law-making. In Criminological Theories, you examine why people commit crime, looking at biological, psychological and sociological explanations. In Crime Scene to Courtroom, you learn about the justice process, including police investigations, evidence, courts and sentencing. Finally, in Crime and Punishment, you consider different aims of punishment and how effective they are.

The course develops strong analytical, research and evaluation skills. You will learn how to interpret evidence, construct well-supported arguments and apply theory to real-life cases. There is also an opportunity to complete practical coursework tasks.
Criminology is ideal if you are interested in crime, law or social issues. It supports careers in policing, law, forensic science, social work and the probation service, and works well alongside subjects like Sociology, Psychology and Law.
