Mr Deery’s Uniform Shop – we want to help!

Loaned uniform is available from the Academy directly. We cannot guarantee all items will be available in every size, but we will work with families to ensure we can share what we can. The school uniform shop will be open for students every day from 7:30-7:50am in M1.

Uniform expectations

Arriving in full school uniform helps students feel equal and gets them ‘Ready to Learn’. Full school uniform should be worn to and from school. Our students are ambassadors for the Academy at all times.

The Academy expectations and uniform apply to all students within the Academy, when travelling to or from the Academy and whilst on trips and visits.

Please note the following points:

  • Sweatshirts/hoodies, caps and trainers are not permitted and will be confiscated.
  • Make up is not permitted. Jewellery including rings (with the exception of one pair of small gold or silver studs on each earlobe and a watch) are not permitted and must not be worn. If worn on school site, jewellery will be confiscated.
  • Woolly hats are allowed in the winter months but must not be worn in the school building. Jackets, too, must not be worn inside the building.
  • We do not allow any facial piercings or more than one piercing in each ear lobe. You will be asked to remove such piercings (even if they have just been done).
  • Hairstyles should be only one natural colour, without markings cut into the hair.
  • Hair longer than shoulder length will be expected to be tied back.
  • No nail varnish or false nails are allowed and nails should be of a reasonable length.
  • Only plain black leather, or imitation leather, school shoes are permitted.
  • If you are considering buying a winter coat or waterproof jacket, please note that this should be plain black or navy blue.
  • Skirts should be knee length and trousers should be worn at the waist.
  • All students in years 7-11 are required to carry a plain backpack which can fit an A4 folder.

This list is not exhaustive and during the academic year items may be added to this list. In this event staff, students and parents/carers will be informed in advance.

Please note – we have written to families in January 2026 saying that we are simplifying our uniform policy to only require white shirts and navy hijabs for those who wish to wear one. During this transition phase, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 can wear either light blue or white shirts and light blue or navy hijabs.

Items of clothing that are not part of the school uniform will be confiscated and a sanction issued. If a student is unsure of our uniform expectations, they should confirm these with their Tutor or Year Team Leader.

Mobile phones and smart watches

We know that many young people have mobile phones. However, they are easily lost or stolen which can cause upset and waste time. They can also cause a distraction. It is expected that every student hands in their phone during Tutor Period or reception, if they arrive late.

Phones are stored securely during the school day and will returned to students at the end of the school day. It is the responsibility of the student to hand in their phone. If a student fails to hand it their phone it will be confiscated for five school days, after which it will be returned to their parent/carer after 3:45pm. Smart watches are not permitted in the academy.
