Health & Social Care

Studying BTEC Health and Social Care gives students a practical understanding of how people grow, develop, and access support throughout their lives, while also building the skills needed to work in care settings.

The course is built around three key components: Component 1: Human Lifespan Development, where students explore physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development and how life events affect individuals; Component 2: Health and Social Care Services and Values, which focuses on the range of care services, the professionals who provide them, barriers to accessing support, and the core care values that guide good practice; and Component 3: Health and Wellbeing, an externally assessed unit where students assess health needs and create realistic health improvement plans.

Together, these components help learners understand real‑world care environments, develop empathy and communication skills, and prepare for future study or careers in areas such as nursing, midwifery, social work, and community care.

Studying BTEC Health and Social Care helps students build a range of useful skills that prepare them for working with people. You will learn good communication, such as how to listen carefully, speak clearly, and show understanding when someone needs support. You will also develop teamwork skills, working with classmates to solve problems and complete tasks together.

The course helps students become more organised and confident, as you learn to manage your time and take responsibility for your work. Most importantly, you learn about respect, kindness, and keeping people safe, which are the values needed in any health or care job.
