Psychology
Studying A-Level Psychology at HLAW will give you the tools to be able to better deconstruct and understand human behaviour and experience. You will be exposed to an array of topics which will allow you to form reasoned judgements about what you see, hear and feel in daily life.
In year 1 of the course, you will learn about key topics including: memory, child psychology, mental illness and biopsychology, where you will explore the various structures of the brain and their functions including how the human brain connects to the human mind.
In year 2 of the course, more specialised topics are covered including: relationships, aggression and schizophrenia. These will allow you to develop a deeper understanding of the context surrounding various daily human actions so you can better interpret situations you are faced with.

The course involves completing three exams at the end of the second year and there are no coursework requirements.
This course will refine many key skills needed for further study and employment, including: critical evaluation, application, analysis and data interpretation. These will be gained through connecting and comparing multiple parts of the course, dissecting and thinking beyond what is read to look for alternative viewpoints as well as completing your own psychological research.
Students who have successfully completed this course in the past have progressed in fields linked to healthcare, law, teaching, counselling and criminology.
There is lots of opportunity for thought-provoking class discussions, often linked to real-world and current affairs issues which make the subject very relevant and allow it to come to life.
Historically, students have made excellent progress when study studying this course at HLAW and it has prepared them effectively for future study and employment, regardless of career sector pursued due to the wealth of transferable skills gained.
