Mr Barrett is an Assistant Principal at Harris Lowe Academy Willesden, overseeing daily operations, including duties, cover and public examinations for Years 11, 12 and 13. He is also the academy’s Data Protection Officer.

Originally from Adelaide, Australia, he graduated from Flinders University of South Australia with a BSc in Archaeology and Palaeontology before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

With over 20 years of teaching experience in London, Mr Barrett has a strong passion for science and is an advocate for girls in STEM subjects. After leading Science at Edmonton County School, he became Network Lead for Science for Ark Schools before joining Ark Elvin Academy as an Assistant Principal.

After taking a sabbatical year to return home to Australia, he joined Harris Lowe Academy in 2018. Since then, he has continued to raise the profile and outcomes of science across the school, while also running a highly successful Dungeons and Dragons club.

Proudest moment in education: After achieving 90% 2A*–C grades as Head of Science at Edmonton County School, my target for the following year was to match that success. However, I wanted us to do even better. Through the teamwork and dedication of my department, and the effort and buy-in of the students, we exceeded expectations and achieved 95% 2A*–C grades.

The thing I love most about HLAW: Without hesitation, it is the students. Their character, wit and curiosity motivate me every day and push me to be the best version of myself as a teacher.
