Homework

Research shows that students who regularly do homework can make five months’ extra progress in their learning. Studies involving digital technology, and the live feedback that these platforms provide, showed an even bigger benefit.

At Harris Lowe Academy Willesden we use both booklets and a range of online learning platforms to support your child in their learning. Please see the tables below for information, and log on advice for each platform.

To support students with homework, the library is open with computer access every lunchtime, and Monday-Wednesday after school until 4pm. Here, students can ask for help with logging in, and can complete their homework in the library if they do not have access at home. The platforms can be accessed using a smartphone (out of school), tablet or laptop.

Year 7 trial of homework booklets

With Year 7 in 2026 we are trying an exciting new approach to homework. This programme is designed to strengthen students’ knowledge, build independence, and make homework more consistent and manageable for families. If the trial is successful, we hope to extend it to more year groups next year.

What each student receives

  • A new homework booklet containing every subject
  • A homework book, an art book, and a maths working book
  • A plastic wallet to keep everything together
  • Training on how to ‘self-quiz’ - a great skill to revise what they have learnt

How it works

  • The homework is arranged week-by-week, to help students stay organised
  • Each subject has the same structure:
  • Section A ‘Learn’:  self-quizzing on 5 key pieces of knowledge;
  • Section B ‘Apply’: 5 questions
  • Students will have short weekly quizzes in lessons
  • There is a bigger test in Week 4 (results shared with you)

Rewards and consequences

  • Achievement points for each complete homework
  • Homework Champion badges for 30, 60 and 120 points
  • 30‑minute detention if homework is incomplete
  • 60‑minute detention if homework is not attempted
