Theme 1: Investigating Small Businesses focuses on how entrepreneurs spot opportunities, identify customer needs, and compete in the market. Students explore topics such as enterprise and entrepreneurship, market research, customer segmentation, pricing strategies, marketing mix decisions, and how small firms manage finance and risk. 

Theme 2: Building a Business moves on to larger organisations and the challenges they face as they expand. This includes studying business growth, organisational structures, recruitment and motivation, financial calculations such as revenue, profit and break‑even, and how businesses develop effective marketing strategies. Together, these themes help students understand how businesses make decisions, respond to competition, and succeed in a fast‑changing world, while building analytical, numerical, and problem‑solving skills that prepare them for further study or the workplace. 

GCSE Business helps students build a broad set of practical and transferable skills that prepare them for further study and the world of work. They develop analytical thinking, learning how to break down business problems, interpret information, and make reasoned decisions. Strong numeracy skills grow through working with financial data such as revenue, profit, cash flow, and break‑even analysis.

Students also strengthen their communication skills, especially when explaining business ideas, justifying decisions, and evaluating different strategies. The subject encourages creativity and enterprise, helping students think like entrepreneurs by spotting opportunities and proposing solutions. Alongside this, they gain confidence in research, teamwork, and decision‑making, all while building a solid understanding of how real businesses operate in a changing world.
